For You formed my inward parts; you covered me in my mother's womb.
Psalms 139:13
Wednesday, January 22 is the thirtieth anniversary of the Roe verses Wade
decision of the Supreme Court that legalized abortion in this land.
Norma McCovey, the real name of "Roe" in the case, lied to her lawyers,
saying she’d been gang raped. It didn't matter.
Her lawyers, radical feminists and recent graduates of law school,
waznted to railroad this cae through the courts in the worst way. Lies
abounded. Abortion
activists claimed anywhere from 5000 to 10,000 women died each year from
back alley abortions, when in fact the number was closer to two or three
hundred. Because the case dragged on and on, McCovey
never did abort her child, and when she finally realized the
repercussions of the decision that was connected to her—the
legalization of abortion in all fifty states—she tried
to kill herself. Today she is a
born-again Christian who actively campaigns
against abortion.
Consider the following statistics…
Total number of abortions in the U.S. from 1973-2002 estimated - -
44,010,378
49% of pregnancies among American women are unintended and half
of these are terminated by abortion." (in other words, one of every four
children does not make it out of the womb alive.
The Three major reasons women give for choosing abortion:
3/4 say having baby would interfere w work, school,
other
responsibilities
2/3 say they cannot afford a child;
1/2 say they don’t want to be a single parent or are having problems
with their husband
or partner
35% of abortions are performed on African/Americans, who comprise
only 12.4% of overall population. One of the main reasons Margaret
Sanger started Planned Parenthood back in the Thirties was to reduce the
number of children that blacks and Italians were having. She had a
program called the "Negro Project" which attempted to enlist preachers to
help in a misinformation campaign… "We do not want word to go out that
we want to exterminate the Negro population, and the minister is the man
who can straighten out that idea if it ever occurs to any of their more
rebellious members."
At current rates, an estimated 43 percent of American women will have
at least one abortion by the age of 45.
About 13,000 abortions each year are attributed to rape & incest—1
percent of all abortions
Partial birth abortions (killing a child by inserting a scissors
in the back of the skull while only the top of the head remains in the
womb) accounts for 4% of total abortions in the United States, or about
400 children brutally murdered each day.
There were fewer abortions in 2002 than any other year since the
practice was legalized. The numbers have been going steadily down since
1990, the peak year… from 1.4 million a year to
somewhere around 1.2
million. The reason is that people are being educated—the facts are
filtering out to the general populace that the child isn’t a feelingless
blob of tissue but a viable human life that feels pain, has it’s own
heartbeat, thinks and even screams when it’s hurt.
Get some tracts and brochures on abortion
and prayerfully, graciously let people know the truth. Demonstrations in
front of abortion clinics make folks hostile, offerings to huge
organizations mostly go to overhead, office and advertising
expenses—information is grassroots, effective and easy. Go for it, help
stomp out this evil in our land.
